Well, we're into December now and that means that even for the biggest Thanksgiving lover out there (i.e. me) the Christmas season is upon us. So what's making me happy this week?
- Every day when my son goes to pre-school, he takes a stuffed animal to snuggle with during his nap. Earlier this week we took the Christmas decorations out of the closet, including a basket of holiday-themed toys. Well, as you might guess, this week his naptime buddies have been very seasonal. It was particularly cute on Wednesday when he showed up with a Santa stuffed animal--not only was he excited, but all of the other kids were, too.
- Around this time of year I'm always in a bit of a predicament, as I like Christmas music but I dislike a lot of particular Christmas songs and albums. I have my old stand-bys and classics, but I like to get some fresh stuff in the rotation as much as possible to avoid burnout, so I'm always on the lookout for a new Christmas album that I'll like. This year I bought one that, I suppose may be a bit hipster-ish, but so far I'm enjoying it: Sufjan Stevens' Songs for Christmas. With 42 tracks, it's a pretty big album and not every song is great, but where it's good, it's very good. One standout track so far is his version of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." Just beautiful.
- So far I don't have any Christmas-looking family photos yet, so I'll close with a cute one of my daughter from Thanksgiving:
Happy weekend, folks!
